If the Africa Guide is included on your SD card: it is automatically available and activated on your GPS via the T4A GPS Maps SD card. No settings are required. This Africa Guide can be accessed under "Extras" on your compatible Garmin Device. Follow the steps and screenshots on this page.

  • 2) GPS: HOW CAN I ACCESS THE AFRICA GUIDE ON THE GARMIN ETREX 20?

The only way to access information on the Africa Guide is via a POI on the GPS map on your GPS unit.

Once you have chosen the POI you are interested in on your GPS, press the "menu" button on the side of the eTrex, and then scroll down and choose the option "Review Point" on your GPS screen...a photo and information will pop up if it is available for that particular point.

  • 3) GPS: PHOTOS ARE NOT SHOWING IN THE AFRICA GUIDE

Please note: we used to include photos on our Africa Guide - but have removed all photos since version 19.05 as the guide is becoming too large with all the data included as well.

If you have a Africa Guide version older than 19.05, and can't see photos - the following may help you:

The Garmin Colorado GPS series was designed without the functionality to show photos in these files.

The Montana GPS also did not show any photos, but Garmin released a new software update in October 2011 (v3.60) which fixed this. This fix is available on the webupdater on the Garmin site at: See here for more info.

The Oregon 300 GPS: if no photos are shown, update to the latest firmware. Oct-11 this was v4.20. The latest software updates are available on the webupdater on the Garmin site: See here for more info.

  • 7) GPS: INSTALL EXTRAS ON YOUR GPS – YOUR GARMIN ASKS THIS QUESTION WHEN SWITCHING IT ON?

When switching on your GARMIN GPS with the T4A SD Card included, which also has the Africa Guide on, your GPS may ask you if you want to install EXTRAS onto your unit.

Please ignore this, and choose "NO" - the GPS wants to add all the waypoints from the Africa Guide onto your GPS internal memory - there are thousands and could use too much memory on your GPS, and this is not necessary, as these waypoints can be accessed on your GPS from the Africa Guide file.
