T4A Maps on in-car navigation systems

Tracks4Africa does not supply any compatible GPS maps for any in-car units.

T4A has held licensing contracts with the likes of Here Technologies since 2009. They are our gateway to the auto industry for embedded solutions since they service 80% of the market. You will find our maps on some models of Ford, Amarok, Toyota LC 70 series and even hidden deep inside Land Rover’s vehicles. T4A cannot intervene in any map updates here.

Land Cruiser Head Unit #

This typical head unit is made by Garmin. T4A Maps is not compatible to this head unit.

We supply data via a third party to Garmin who creates the maps for the in car navigation system.  You will see the prefix OEM, indicating a different format from what we use on the handheld units.

The actual hardware is from a company in Taiwan and Garmin supplies the navigation software to them.

Updates will only be available via Toyota from Garmin.

Land Cruiser 79 series Toyota navigation system #

Our company Cruiser also has that radio and unfortunately it cannot use the T4A maps. The format which Garmin is using for automotive is different to what they use in handheld GPS….

There is a lot of T4A data built into that system by Toyota themselves however. But updates is a problem and they also mixed it in with lots of other data so we cannot vouch for how the routing will work.

There is unfortunately no way to transfer Tracks4Africa maps to this LC system.

Landrover #

If TracksAfrica Maps were included in your Landrover when you purchased it: For any support or questions please contact Landrover. We cannot supply you with an upgrade for these units, or any form of support.

Our maps are made available to Landrover via other companies and then Landrover distributes the maps via their systems, you will have unfortunately have to contact Landrover with regards to the maps and map updates.

Ford Everest #

The 2020 Ford Everest has a build-in navigation system with maps installed. The system runs on SYNC 3 software (Version 3.4).

T4A cannot supply map updates. The way this setup works is that T4A supplies map data to a company who is responsible for maintaining the software and map updates for Ford. They have a global agreement to supply their product which incorporates our data to Ford. We unfortunately do not have a way of interjecting into this process.

It is a matter for Ford to take up with their software supplier. The system is completely supplied and supported by Ford. No one other than them would be able to load new software or maps to the unit.

One would expect map updates announcements to be made by Ford via the dealerships.
