For SD Cards registered on our site only: 

Entitles you to 1 free upgrade on the following SD Card Release version only, or you can opt for the latest version of the Complete Set of Downloadable maps with updates over 1 year for free, which will put you into Subscription mode .

Then in future, further 50% discount purchases on any other subsequent versions of SD Card / Complete set of latest version of the Downloadable GPS Maps (ie a yearly subscription).

If you purchase GPS Downloadable Maps from our site – you will receive the latest map version that is available for that particular Subscription product. (ie. Please note: SD Card versions and Subscription version numbers differ).

Complete Africa Mapset: Yearly Subscriptions (ie. includes map updates over 1 year): Once purchased, you will be entitled to all the map updates we release within the next 12 months. This could be up to four updates within a year as we aim to release updates every quarter, but it may also depend on the number of changes we make to our map content. We will however release at least two map updates per year. (Note: When your yearly subscription ends – your GPS maps will continue working on your Garmin device! You will however no longer receive any map updates unless you purchase a subscription again!)

Any future purchase of the complete mapset for 1 year/GPS Maps on SD Card of subsequent version releases, will then be at a 50% discount regardless of when you come back to buy.

Complete Africa Mapset: 5 Year Subscriptions (ie. includes map updates over 5 years): Once purchased, you will be entitled to all the map updates we release within the next 5 years. This could be up to four updates within a year as we aim to release updates every quarter, but it may also depend on the number of changes we make to our map content. We will however release at least two map updates per year. (Note: When your 5 year subscription ends – your GPS maps will continue working on your Garmin device! Once you’ve installed the T4A GPS Maps to your device, it might show the map name installed as: for example:

T4A Swaziland 260301,T4A Mozambique Malawi 260301

Garmin devices decides how the map name is displayed, when you have the complete map of Africa loaded on the device the Garmin might display the map as  ” T4A Swaziland 260301, T4A Mozambique Malawi 260301″ or “T4A Traveller’s Africa” etc.

If uncertain, you can always also check the size of the Map on the device by connecting your Garmin to your computer. The complete T4A Travellers Africa map size is more than 400MB.

Note: your new Garmin Product has a warranty of 2 years.

If your product is problematic within these 2 years AND you purchased the product from Tracks4Africa – you can:

• Return it to us in Paarl and we will manage the Returns process.
• OR you can contact Garmin SA. Garmin SA has a walk-in support center in Rosebank where customers can go and drop their faulty units. 

Also Note: Garmin products OUT OF WARRANTY cannot be returned to Tracks4Africa. You have to contact Garmin directly.

Tracks4Africa does not supply any compatible GPS maps for any in-car units. 

T4A has held licensing contracts with the likes of Here Technologies since 2009. They are our gateway to the auto industry for embedded solutions since they service 80% of the market. You will find our maps on some brands of Ford, Amarok, Toyota LC 70 series and even hidden deep inside Land Rover’s vehicles. T4A cannot intervene in any map updates here.

Our Guide App is NOT available on Android Auto or Apple CarPlay yet – we are currently working on it.

The zoom levels of the in-app purchase guides only zoom to 5km. Whereas the Africa Map zooms all the way!

The in-app purchases consist of: 

• Guides: For example: Namibia, Botswana etc. These are guides containing information about places. The map zoom level of these guides only go up to 5km.
• We only have a certain zoom level on this app for the Guides (which is very good) and the reason for this is due to the fact that the App can only carry a certain amount of information. If we had to increase the zoom level it would have made the App too heavy to carry all the information. 
• At this point, we would double the size of the download file if we include another zoom level. 
• Africa Map: this is a high zoom level map – zooming down to the lowest level, giving the user good map detail. This map includes the entire Africa. 

The app is however fully functional as an electronic guide as was its intention. 

Note: if you purchase 3 guides in the in-app purchases – you will receive the Africa Map for free. 

Our existing apps are more than a decade old and the technology on which these apps were based needs to be updated. We want to develop new features for our app that can only be achieved by using a modern software architecture.

Lookout for our new app on the Google Play store and on the Apple store.

Absolute minimum requirement is Android 7.0 “Nougat”.

IOS / Apple

You would need IOS 14 or later to use this app.

The new Tracks4Africa app will offer the same features as the Guide App and we will continue to add new features for this app. The features of the app will be accessed via an annual subscription and different features will be offered on the various plans.

• Features of the Tracks4Africa app for Base subscription users:
• Offline maps – use the tracks4Africa maps offline
• Offline guides – our rich content for points of interest is bundled into the app
• Know where you are – the first step of navigation is to know where you are. The app will show your location on the map as you drive. This feature does not require you to be online.
• Search and display categories of points – you can toggle categories on and off to quickly find things like fuel or campsites. The search can also be filtered by category.
• Trips and Routes offline – you can download any trips and routes that you planned on the Tracks4Africa Trip planner to the app and use these offline.
• Submit check-ins and corrections – the app allows you to send us updates on places on our maps by way of a check-in. You can also mark and submit new points.
• Cross-platform support – with your Tracks4Africa login you can use the app on either Android or iOS devices.

Future enhancements planned for the Tracks4Africa app will be announced and users will have the option to upgrade their subscription to include these features. Here are a few things we plan for the Premium subscription:

• Offline routing. The app will allow you to use existing routes to navigate or to calculate new routes to points on the map. This will be done offline, on the app.
• Support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – use the app on your compatible in-car entertainment device.
• Track recording – use the app to record new tracks (and submit them to Tracks4Africa, allowing us to improve the maps)
  

The Premium features will start development once the new app is launched and we cannot commit to timelines for the release of any and all of these features. The nature of software development is also such that we cannot guarantee all of the above features will be developed, however we will give it our best shot. We are also travellers and we want these features.
 

We offer a migration process for users who have purchased maps and guides in our old Guide App. These purchases were all lifetime products and for that reason we will offer any of the existing paid users, a lifetime Base subscription. The lifetime Base subscription will give you offline access to the maps and guides on our Track4Africa app.

In order to gain access to the lifetime Base subscription you would need to register on the Tracks4Africa website and use this login on the old Guide App. Once you logged into the old Guide App with your Tracks4Africa credentials, we will be able to associate your in-app purchases with your Tracks4Africa account.

If you have not registered an account on Tracks4Africa yet:

• Register an account on Tracks4Africa at https://tracks4africa.co.za/accounts/register/

After registering, open your Guide App and sign in with your Tracks4Africa account and password while connected to the internet.

This step is essential for our system to log your existing in-app purchases.

You can now go ahead and install the new Tracks4Africa app. Sign into the app using your Tracks4Africa login and you will be given access to the Base subscription. You can now also use this login to gain access to the Tracks4Africa Trip Planner.

Yes, one of the features of the new Tracks4Africa app is that the subscription belongs to your Tracks4Africa account and not to the app store itself. This enables you to login with your credentials on more than one device and you can also use it on both Android and iOs without having to migrate your purchase. We have a 5 device limit per user account. 

Yes, simply download the app and log in with your Tracks4Africa credentials to access your subscription. 

The functionality of the app will revert to that of a guest user, meaning you will not have access to the offline map and guides, nor your trip planning data. 

We anticipate that some users will go on a trip and forget to renew their subscription and that the subscription may expire while you are on a trip. You may also not be able to renew your subscription due to being offline.

For a scenario like this we will offer users a grace period for renewing their subscription. The grace period will only be offered on the app if you are completely offline and you have the choice to accept or reject the grace period. Once you are able to renew your subscription the number of days used in the grace period will be subtracted from the subscription.
 

Yes you can.

You have the option of doing check-ins on existing points or to create new points and submit these as map corrections. Any check-ins or map corrections will be stored while you are offline and once you have internet access you can sync these to Tracks4Africa. Our team in the office will receive your data and start processing it for the next map update.
 

Currently the app will show your location on the map as you move. There are no turn by turn directions like GPS navigation.

You can plan trips on our Trip Planner and sync that to your app – and follow the routes on the app.

We are looking into full on navigation in the future!

Renting out vehicles with Tracks4Africa GPS Maps?

If you operate a tour business or vehicle rental company and would like to provide Tracks4Africa GPS maps in vehicles used by self-drive travellers, simply contact us to apply for an annual business licence.

A personal GPS map purchase does not cover commercial use. With a business licence, you’ll receive two GPS map releases per year and can use our maps on as many GPS units as you need.

Renting a GPS with Tracks4Africa GPS maps installed? 

If you rent a GPS with T4A maps, be sure to check that the latest T4A map version is installed. Using an older version may result in outdated or incorrect information.
